The Flow of Development in Allegheny County

For the first time in its history, ACCD has created data sets and mapped National Pollutant Discharge and Elimination System (NPDES) permit applications and locations of stormwater best management practices in Allegheny County.

The data is hosted on the Western Pennsylvania Regional Data Center’s open data portal. Visit the portal to download shapefiles, CSV data attribute tables, and data dictionary files.
 

Streamlined Watershed Planning Tool

ACCD is collaborating with municipalities to create a Streamlined Watershed Planning Tool for identifying and planning water-related projects on a watershed scale.

Plum Creek Watershed

Starting in the Plum Creek Watershed, ACCD is streamlining the watershed planning process to reduce the timeline for plan development. The Plum Creek Watershed Plan is a StoryMap that uses municipal input and GIS modeling to identify areas for the most beneficial interventions.

Monroeville Library Flood Repair

Allegheny County Conservation District completed the installation of stormwater best management practices (BMPs) at the Monroeville Public Library in December 2021. The entrance of the library frequently flooded during heavy rain.

Riparian Forests Buffers

Riparian Forests Buffers

ACCD has planted over 4,000 trees, shrubs, and live stakes as part of riparian forest buffers throughout the county. Working with many partners, ACCD was able to implement over 20 acres of riparian forest buffers in eight watersheds throughout the county.

Glassport Borough Landslide Remediation

Glassport Borough Landslide Remediation

In 2019, a landslide occurred on Detroit Avenue in a steep corner of Glassport Borough. It started contaminating nearby streams with sediment, creating hazardous road conditions, and impacting residents' access to services.
